Congratulations to Calgary Institute for Humanities Fellow Uchechukwu Umezurike on Newest Publications
Calgary Institute for the Humanities McCready Emerging Fellow and Assistant Professor in the Department of English Dr. Uchechukwu Umezurike is celebrating the release of two new books this spring. Masculinities in Nigerian Fiction: Receptivity and Gender explores how Nigerian authors challenge gender and sexuality norms in their writing. Simon Fraser University's Department of English held a launch event in March featuring Dr. Umezurike speaking about the themes of the book and the broader connections to his work on diaspora, migration, belonging, and identity.
In addition to Masculinities in Nigerian Fiction, Dr. Umezurike is also celebrating the launch of his new book of poetry We Survived Until We Could Live which uses the form to explore the aftermath of war, in terms of trauma, but also in relation to kindness and resiliency. The book was recently featured in CBC's list of Canadian Poetry to check out this spring.
