Taiwan and Canada: Domestic Politics and International Relations
On April 1, 2025 in Ottawa with Carleton University and April 2, 2025 in Toronto with the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, the Institute or Peace & Diplomacy (IPD) co-hosted Taiwan and Canada: Domestic Politics and International Relations‘. The two events featured scholars from Taiwan, the United States and Canada and engaged in a discussion on the nexus of Taiwanese domestic politics and international relations, including Taiwan-US and cross-straits relations, and implications for Canada-Taiwan ties.
UCalgary History Associate Professor David Curtis Wright was a panelist in Carleton on April 1st and he spoke about Canada's relationship with Taiwan. Other panel discussions covered issues such as the political deadlock between the Executive and the Legislative Yuan, human rights and civic freedoms, regional security, and Taiwanese perspectives on the Trump presidency.
