University of Calgary

The University of Calgary is proud to be a partner of the Calgary Stampede — known as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. The 10-day-long event celebrates western heritage, culture, and community spirit. In addition to all the music, fun and food on the grounds, UCalgary is involved in numerous events on campus and other sites around the city.

Here’s how you can be a part of UCalgary activities being planned for Stampede:

President’s Stampede Barbecue
Wednesday, July 3, 2019
Taylor Family Digital Library Quadrangle, 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Dust off your boots and join President Ed McCauley as he hosts his first Stampede barbecue. Enjoy a delicious lunch of beef on a bun while listening to live country music, and join the line dancing demonstration.

Bring a donation for the SU Food Bank and spare change for the United Way raffle. Come early for this popular event, as only the first 1,500 guests will be served.

Calgary Stampede Parade
Friday, July 5, 2019
Downtown Calgary, 9 to 11:30 a.m.

The Stampede Parade is a special part of Calgary's cultural identity and kicks off the start of the 10-day celebration. The University of Calgary’s brand-new float will be proudly displayed in the parade in the city’s downtown core. This year’s parade entry encourages all participants from the community to "Let your ideas soar.”

Bring your family, cheer loudly and show your university pride. Take photos of our float and share on social media using #ucalgary and #Stampede2019. The Stampede has tips on how to watch the event.

Vet Med at Stampede
Students from the Veterinary Medicine program host an interactive booth every day at the Stampede, located in the Country Critters area of the Agriculture Barn. They have hands-on activities and demonstrations for the public, including an opportunity to palpate a cow simulator model — a fan favourite.

In the community
UCalgary is proud to participate in a number of community events during Stampede as an opportunity to enhance engagement with neighbours and the broader community. Stop by the UCalgary booth as guests spin the prize wheel.
