Stem Cell Talks a Huge Success

RRM Students Discussing Topic

Stem Cell Talks is a national outreach program and a partnership between Canada's Stem Cell Network and Let's Talk Science. The goal of the event is to educate high school students on stem cell research in a fun and interactive way. This year, the theme of UCalgary's event was Stem Cell Safari: From Organs to Organisms. Talks were given by Dr. Jeff Biernaskie, Dr. Holly Sparks, Kyle Hynes, Dr. Vincent Gabriel, and Dr. Jack Chu to educate and inspire the students with stories of stem cell applications across different species and tissues. Over 200 high school students from across Calgary and surrounding areas attended, which made this the largest Stem Cell Talks event in Canada! The event could not have been as successful without our volunteers who helped engage students in discussions and give lab tours of the Biernaskie, Chu, Ungrin, and Krawetz labs. We also want to thank our speakers who demonstrated the excellent and inspiring research here at the University of Calgary.
