Student Clubs

There are a variety of veterinary student clubs on-campus to match your current interests or allow you to explore new ones. If a club that you want does not exist, you can start a new one!

University of Calgary clubs are managed by the Students Union. Search for a club or start a new one by visiting the Student Union website.

Behaviour and Training (BAT) Club

President: Megan Haas (2023)

The BAT Club is focused on providing educational opportunities for students to learn about behavioural training and low stress handling of companion animals. Through guest speakers, training sessions, and hands on learning opportunities, the club will provide its members with new learning opportunities while helping them develop skills that are vital to their future careers as veterinarians. In addition, the BAT Club's goal is to provide enrichment and training for the UCVM teaching dogs and cats which will aid them in getting adopted once they retire from their jobs as teaching animals.

Christian Veterinary Fellowship (CVF)

President: Deborah Yee (2023)

Our goal is to establish a culture of God’s love by serving our faculty, university, community, nation, and world through community service, worship, ministering, and showing God’s kingdom through the daily vigor of veterinary life. We meet regularly to support one another spiritually through prayer, sharing, and encouragement from the Word. Everyone is welcome to join us! Some activities we participate in include potlucks, CVM dinner, and the "Real Life, Real Impact" conference with CVM. Our fellowship is established by Christian Veterinary Mission. You can learn more information about them at http://cvmusa.org/ or http://cvmcanada.org.

Ecosystem & Public Health (EPH) Club

President: Molly Kavanagh (2023)

The EPH Club is comprised of students interested in zoological medicine, wildlife, ecology, and public health. The EPH Club emphasis is on human-animal-ecosystem interactions and the issues that arise from them, as well as developing the hands-on skills needed to work in this field. The club organizes and participates in learning activities involving guest speakers, field courses, volunteer activities, day trips, fundraising events, conferences, and more. Suggested experts involved in these activities will include zoos, Parks Canada, Coastal Health, Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Government of Northwest Territories, and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Equine Club

President: Sara Toner (2023)

The Equine Club is geared to increase the exposure of veterinary medicine students to the equine industry. We aim to do this through seminars, videos, wet labs, weekend horse clinics, farm tours and trips, and potentially international travel. Some past events included a weekend clinic with Jonathan Fields, a trip to an equine farm to practice working with weanlings and yearlings to improve our handling skills, and hands-on labs and seminars from local vets who work in the industry as well as from professionals dealing with showing, equine care, etc. We are also a student chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) who provide funding for events and trips, opportunities to go to conferences, and scholarships.

Honey Bee Health Club

President: Garrett Wachoski-Dark (2023)

The UHBH is a club dedicated to the promotion of veterinary interest in honey bees. As of 2018, medically important antimicrobial use has been under the oversight of veterinarians. As such, beekeepers are relying on veterinarians for prescriptions, despite few veterinarians being comfortable with honey bee health. The club aims to increase the number of graduating veterinarians that are comfortable incorporating honey bee health into their practice. Moreover, it also aims to increase a passion for beekeeping as a hobby.

Investigative Medicine (IM) Club

President: Diana Powell (2023)

The IM Club exists to provide a medium with which to bring together veterinary students, veterinarians, graduate students, and researchers to foster an environment with a common objective of advancing education and collaboration within the veterinary research community.

Pathology Club

President: Taylor Smithson (2023)

The Pathology Club is a fun, interactive club that focuses on clinical and anatomic pathology. Past events include wildlife necropsies, potlucks, lectures from pathologists, and pathology review seminars. The club is also able to cover some costs associated with sending interested members to the Annual Meeting of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists!

Production Animal Health (PAH) Club

President: Cale Toews (2023)

The PAH Club strives to develop the skills, relationships, and knowledge necessary to serve the production animal industry as veterinarians. This is done through guest speakers, workshops, conferences, and fun social events!

Radiology Club

President: Chloé Jackson (2023)

The RadVet club aims to aid UCVM students, both undergraduate and graduate, in learning Veterinary Radiology as a discipline. Additionally, we provide information and resources for those interested in specializing in Veterinary Radiology.

Small Animal Club (SAC)
