About Us
The Calgary International Equine Symposium, hosted by the University of Calgary's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM), is a prominent event focusing on innovation and discovery in equine health and welfare. The symposium serves as a platform for equine health professionals, researchers, and students to share advancements and foster collaborations.
The inaugural event took place in 2018, featuring a wide range of topics from equine metabolic syndrome to asthma in racehorses. The symposium also included a significant presentation by Dr. Noah Cohen on a new vaccine for Rhodococcus equi, a major cause of foal pneumonia.
Each year, the symposium includes keynote speakers, podium presentations, and poster sessions. Participants compete for various awards, such as the $10,000 platform presentation award and multiple poster presentation awards for graduate students. The event concludes with a VIP ceremony at the renowned Spruce Meadows during the Masters' event, adding a unique social and networking dimension.
The symposium not only highlights cutting-edge research but also emphasizes the importance of student involvement, providing opportunities for future veterinarians to present their work and engage with leading experts in the field. This fosters an environment of learning and collaboration, positioning UCVM as a leader in equine research and innovation.
