Goal 4

Use our expertise to build capacity in the veterinary field

UCVM is uniquely positioned to engage in various capacity development activities, as many of our faculty and >50% of our graduate students are international. UCVM faculty members are already engaged in capacity development activities in response to country-specific and global needs in various areas. We will encourage more faculty members to participate in our existing programs and identify new opportunities for capacity development, while being strategic in these efforts, based on resources and support from partnering institutions, opportunities for UCVM to make powerful impacts on communities, and opportunities for our students to advance their learning and career experience.

Strategies:

  • Recruit and train international graduate students in partnership with our global partners and their affiliated institutions or organizations
  • Contribute to capacity development in partnering institutions in their areas of interest and expertise.
  • Interweave capacity development activities with learning opportunities for our trainees.
  • Facilitate faculty and trainee exchange between UCVM and partner institutions for capacity development activities.
  • Leverage our expertise to develop policies and procedures to address animal health and welfare issues.
