Richard Moore, Ph.D. - Lab Manager

Rich did his Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia, and postdoc fellows with Agriculture Canada in London, Ontario. He was a research associate at the University of  Calgary for many years before joining Tao's lab in 2014.

(Rich says: "I wish I had this when I was a student")

Xiaoye Liang - Lab Technician

Xiaoye Liang - Lab Technician

Xiaoye joined the lab in 2014. Trained as a microbiologist, she was used to watching bacteria interacting with one another. Here she is excited to see her proteins interacting inside the cell. She explains "a positive protein-protein interaction gives a red color on the left plate and a green color on the right".

Le (Jessie) Tang

Le (Jessie) Tang

Alberta Innovates Health Solutions (AIHS) Postdoctoral Fellow

Jessie joined us in late Aug 2015. She obtained her MD and PhD from Harbin Medical School in China. She has won a number of national and provincial scholarships in the past, including the most recent AIHS fellowship.  Previously trained in evolution biology, Jessie is working on understanding how pathogens evolve and diverge even within the same species.

Linh Lam, Lab Assistant

Linh Lam, Lab Assistant

Linh is in her third year of a Bachelor degree in Cellular, Molecular & Microbial Biology. She is an international student from Vietnam and has been awarded CISSA Scholarship for International Students (2012) and President's Award (2012 & 2013). Aside from her love for science, she has quite a few hobbies: Bamboo flute, Amigurumi, and learning more languages.

Megan Jee Quin Wong, Lab Assistant

Megan Jee Quin Wong, Lab Assistant

Megan is an undergraduate student studying in the Cellular, Molecular, and Microbial Biology program at the U of C; she hopes to pursue graduate studies following the completion of her Bachelor's degree in the upcoming year. “Driven by curiosity, research allows for the opportunity to explore the unknown and push beyond the boundaries of human knowledge. It’s something I find to be rather perplexing, but awe-inspiring all at the same time.” Alongside her passion for science, Megan enjoys travelling, photography, music, and practicing the lost art of sleep.

(Megan with a toothpick: “I feel like toothpicks are underrepresented in labs.”)

Alex Le, Lab Assistant

Alex Le, Lab Assistant

Alex is entering his 2nd year of undergraduate study. He has made excellent contributions to the lab in the last 8 months by making media and sterile tools as well as carrying out a research project on antibiotic resistance of environment microbes.
