A central part of the legacy of the donation of W.A. Ranches is a commitment to youth in the community. The youth program focuses on a certificate in Beef Cattle Health & Welfare, available online, for youth to learn more about sustainable beef production practices and certify their knowledge for communicating with future employers, scholarships, and the next stages in their learning.

Experiential learning opportunities is essential in understanding sustainable beef production, from those looking to develop new skills to those looking to refine a lifetime of knowledge with up-to-date best practices informed by research. The ranch has hosted community members from school groups and 4H, conducting general workshops about beef production to more specific hands-on learning activities like cattle handling, calving, lameness, and safe injections.

Set in the beautiful foothills of Alberta, with responsible land management integrated into beef production, the ranch hosts groups from around the world to learn, connect, and innovate. Connected with the research and teaching at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the ranch is an ideal location to highlight sustainable beef production practices and share up-to-date research.

Groups have included ranchers from other countries seeking to expand their knowledge of beef production, conference groups wanting to highlight Alberta practices and research, and various others. Visits highlight general ranch operations, as well as calving management, extensive production systems, and research on ecosystems, beef cattle reproduction, health, and welfare.
