Welcome!
The graduate and postgraduate education mission of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is to be an international leader in the training of animal health researchers and postgraduate veterinarians who will advance animal and public health as well as the veterinary profession.
We have almost 100 research and clinical trainees and steadily continue to climb towards our target of 200. The programs that we have are as follows:
-
-
Internships (one year) for DVM graduates to gain additional experience in specialty clinical areas (small animal, bovine, equine, zoo medicine);
- Postdoctoral fellowships for research trainees that already have PhD degrees;
-
The features of our graduate program are:
- generous graduate student awards:
- reimbursement of international student tuition fees (i.e. international students pay same fees as Canadian students);
- working within a research-intensive veterinary school with close linkages to the medical school and partner agencies in the public and private sector
- an optional 4-6 month research rotation program to allow students a variety of work environments with different professors in order to make more informed decisions about supervisors; (please note that this program will be suspended after Fall 2012)
- strong training in basic research skills and in addition to, communication, ethics and career options;
- minimal residency requirement to encourage research work off site;
- commitment to completion of MSc within 2 years, and completion of candidacy (qualifying) exam for PhD student within 18 months.
