Recruiting

Ungrin lab is looking for creative, adaptable and highly-motivated graduate students, postdocs and summer students who are interested in interdisciplinary training. A growing lab (started in 2012), our research is built around microscale tissue engineering for both therapeutic and research applications, as well as the development of supporting technologies. Training opportunities include tissue engineering / regenerative medicine, stem cell and developmental biology, experimental design, 3D printing / bioprinting as well as some recent forays into the development of supporting technologies for our veterinary clinical colleagues.

Interested applicants please email me at Mark.Ungrin@ucalgary.ca  and provide a brief statement covering your research experience and reasons for interest in this position. Candidates applying from a Bachelor’s degree program please discuss your performance as an undergraduate, more experienced candidates please also provide a list (with web links) of peer reviewed publications. Please take note of the application deadlines for acceptance into the Veterinary MedicineBiomedical Engineering and Medical Sciences programs. Positions are dependant on budget availability, and competitiveness in scholarship applications will be an important criterion.

As our team is now fairly substantial, in most cases a successful scholarship or fellowship application to support your training will be a necessary part of the application process.

Undergraduate students please start by looking here.

Prospective graduate students can find information at the following links specific to VetMed, BME, and Medicine, and there is also funding available for postdocs.

You should also perform your own searches for funding sources - there are numerous opportunities available, and many of them are somewhat obscure - which means if you can find them and are eligible, your chances may be greater than they would be in more conventional competitions with a larger applicant pool.

NEW: I am receiving a high volume of applications, particularly from international applicants, and I have not been able to reply to all of them. My apologies, I would prefer to but I do not have enough time.

Note for international students currently studying in the United States: Please be sure you understand how leaving the U.S. for training in Canada would affect your U.S. visa status before you apply.
