New hours of operation for the Foothills Campus Distribution Services: Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm. In addition, the pick-up window will be closed between 11am-1pm daily. These hours will be effective as of February 14.

The Vet Ball team is collecting bottles to fundraise for Vet Ball next year. Bottles can be dropped off in the CSB loading doc on Tuesday February 8. Please label the bags with staff/faculty so we can determine who is participating, as this is a competition between all years, and now faculty/staff.

Pathology Rounds will be every Thursday 12:30-1:15pm in CSB 134. Path Rounds will be virtual through February.

The annual UCVM Awards event is being cancelled due to ongoing pandemic restrictions. An in-person event had been postponed in the fall because of COVID-19 restrictions with plans to reschedule in early 2022. However, as uncertainty about the virus continues, award winners will instead be recognized on a celebratory website. More details to follow shortly.

Domestic travel on UCalgary business

All members of the campus community are urged to avoid or defer all non-essential inter-provincial domestic travel on UCalgary business.

As such, all domestic travel must be approved by your Dean/Senior Leadership Team (SLT) member. Travel may be considered where it must be completed at that place and at that time and your Department Head and Dean have agreed it is important and of strategic value to the university and the individual. The experience must be required to be in-person.

One Health Circle - Win-wins for Prairie Agriculture: Achieving food production and environmental sustainability. Wednesday February 16, 7-8pm.

Global population growth means that food production must also increase, however, many current food systems cause significant resource depletion and unacceptable environmental impacts. Join Dr. Paul Galpern (UCalgary) as he talks about the importance of beneficial insect communities and how natural landscape features can support food production and agricultural sustainability. Dr. Christy Morrissey (USask) will speak to the impacts of pesticides on birds and wetlands and how sustainable agricultural methods can produce wins–wins for producers and biodiversity.

Maria Arifin, Gilch Lab, will present “A Prion Protein Gene Polymorphism at Codon 138 Modulates Chronic Wasting Disease Pathogenesis” and Chenhua Li, Wasmuth Lab, will present “Towards a molecular understanding of host zombification by a parasitic worm”.   • The Future of Food Virtual Conference will be held on Canada’s Ag day on February 22, 11am-1pm ET. The conference will explore the path toward a resilient, vibrant and innovative Canadian vision for the agriculture and food industry. The event will feature a panel with Casper Kaastra from Sollio Agriculture; Charlie Angelakos from McCain Foods; and Alanna Koch from the Global Institute for Food Security at the University of Saskatchewan. Special guest Terry O’Reilly, host of CBC Radio’s Under the Influence will then take you through a journey to understand how organizations and businesses can achieve outstanding results when they apply “out-of-the-box" thinking. The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Mary Robinson, President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture will also be in attendance. This is a free event, pre-registration is required.
