Juhi Huda, PhD

Research Associate

Juhi is an Environmental Social Scientist and Research Associate at the Simpson Centre for Food and Agricultural Policy, University of Calgary. At the Simpson Centre, her work examines how policy, governance, and communication intersect to shape environmental and agricultural outcomes, with a particular focus on freshwater management and agricultural sustainability. She currently organizes and facilitates the Policy Lab on Water Sustainability in Alberta’s Agriculture through Digitalization, convening producers, policymakers, researchers, and industry representatives to co-develop actionable policy pathways for sustainable water use in agriculture. She also leads research on agricultural controversies aimed at demystifying the agrifood system for the general public.

Prior to joining the University of Calgary, Juhi served as an Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies at FLAME University in India, where her research explored urban sustainability, climate narratives, and citizen engagement and she taught courses in Environmental Impact Assessment and Sustainability and Development. She has also worked with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Caltech, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Nepal, and the University of Nevada, Reno. She has published in peer-reviewed journals including in Politics & Policy and Review of Policy Research. Juhi is a committed science communicator and collaborator and aims to advance equitable and evidence-based agricultural and environmental policy through collaboration with actors across government, academia, and civil society. She holds a Masters in Literature and Environment from the University of Nevada Reno and a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies (Policy Core) from the University of Colorado Boulder.
