Bovine Veterinarian

Dr. Gordon Atkins

Dr. Gordon Atkins is a Professor in Production Animal Health at UCVM. His main area of interest involves all aspects of dairy herd health. He has a special interest in bovine (wodeja) gastrointestinal surgery and has presented numerous seminars on this topic. He is actively involved in the Holstein business as a breeder and exhibitor at many shows.


A University Veterinarian

Dr. Dean Brown

Dr. Dean Brown is a university veterinarian (wodeja nîkte wîchakiyetha) at the Veterinary Science Research Station at the University of Calgary. He completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary in 2014. He works with a variety of different animals at the UCVM, including dogs (sûga), cats (owakâgen), reindeer (tatoga), and lab animals.


Veterinary Pathologist

Dr. Dayna Goldsmith

Dr. Dayna Goldsmith is an anatomic pathologist and an Instructor in Anatomic Pathology at UCVM. She completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Calgary in 2013 and completed a residency in Anatomic Pathology at the University of California Davis in 2016. Her research interests include wildlife (rheyam wodeja) and zoo medicine.


Small Animal Veterinarian

Dr. Penni Murphy

Dr. Penni Murphy is a small animal veterinarian (wodeja nîkte wîchakiyetha) and an Instructor in Veterinary Clinical & Diagnostic Sciences at UCVM. She completed her veterinary degree in Australia, and then worked and travelled throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom before moving to Canada.


Animal Welfare Expert

Dr. Ed Pajor

Dr. Ed Pajor is a Professor of Animal Welfare at the UCVM in the Department of Production Animal Health. He is recognized internationally for his research in areas of swine, dairy, and poultry behaviour and welfare, as well as his expertise in animal welfare standards and legislation.
