Community Report 2023

msg from dean banner

2023 has been an extraordinarily busy year here at the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM). It was dedicated to meticulously planning for our expansion on top of our everyday work. It is exciting to think that in fall 2025, double the number of students will be preparing for their careers in Veterinary Medicine through our faculty. Work is well underway to expand our program with a revised curriculum being finalized and a new 70,000 feet building dedicated to student learning under construction.

As of December 2023, it has been five years since the University of Calgary was gifted W.A. Ranches. It has already become a space for research, teaching and learning, community engagement and outreach, not just for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine but also other faculties. We are planning to build on this to maximise the use of this wonderful gift.

Growth and change are exciting and challenging at the same time, and
I would like to use this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to everyone within and outside of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine who is helping us to do our part to address the veterinary needs in Alberta and beyond.

This Community Report is a testament to the stories that unfolded throughout 2023 at UCVM and out in the community. It showcases the collective efforts of the faculty its remarkable achievements in 2023. As we move into 2024, we look forward to continuing to make a significant impact to society by fostering talent and creating innovative solutions to today’s problems. Thank you for being a part of our narrative and contributing to the continued success of the faculty.
