International students
Our graduate program is preparing the next generation of international leaders in animal and public health, making UCVM a top choice for students from around the world.
Study Permit
An international student requires a Study Permit to study in Canada. It is issued to students by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and authorizes an individual to study at a designated educational institution in Canada for the duration of the program of study.
Working in Canada
As an international student studying full-time with a valid Study Permit, there are a couple of work options that are available to you. Students must use a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) number when applying for a work permit: UCalgary’s DLI number is O18886830282. The DLI number is also available from the CIC website.
Additional Admission Information
There is no general right of admission to graduate programs. All graduate programs have limited enrollment capacities, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Each graduate program determines whether to recommend the admission of a particular applicant to the Faculty of Graduate Studies based not only on the applicant's credentials, but also on the availability of resources for supervision and research, departmental research objectives, program balance, and other such considerations. Applicants who do not meet the above requirements will only be considered under exceptional circumstances.
Support Resources
UCalgary offers services and resources to help international students transition to their new environment.
