UCVM Community Care Clinic
Serving pets and the families who love them, the UCVM Community Care Clinic provides accessible, subsidized veterinary care through referrals from our community partners for those facing barriers to care.
The clinic also plays an important role in educating future veterinarians—giving students real-world experience that helps them become compassionate, practice-ready graduates.
The UCVM Community Care Clinic is a teaching clinic operated by the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Our mission is to:
- Train general practice-ready, compassionate veterinarians, and
- Address the growing challenge of equitable access to veterinary care in Calgary.
Together with our community partners, we’re building a healthier, more accessible care for pets and people.

We Provide:
- Wellness and medical exams
- Preventative medicine (e.g., vaccinations, parasite screening and prevention, etc.)
- Spay/neuter surgeries
- General surgery (e.g. mass removal, wound repair, foreign bodies, etc.)
- Diagnostic services (e.g. blood testing, radiology, etc.)
- Patient nutrition recommendations
- Educational component
Our Approach:
Each visit supports both your pet’s health and the education of the next generation of veterinarians — combining compassion, education, and community service.
Clinic Fees:
- There is a minimal charge for all services provided.
- Fees are heavily subsidized by amazing donors, veterinary industry partners, and the support of the University of Calgary and veterinary students to ensure affordable care.
- Clients may check with Community Partners or with the UCVM Community Care Clinic regarding specific service costs.
- Payment is due at the time of service. We accept debit, credit, and cash (no e-transfers).

All patients must be picked up before 5:00 p.m.

- Follow the path along the back of the building to access the clinic entrance.
- There is no parking allowed directly by the door.

Public Transit Options

- Bus Access: Buses to the Royal Oak/Walmart shopping centre stop within walking distance of campus.
- Dogs are welcome on board for free, but they must be on a leash. Other animals can also ride for free, but they need to be in a carrier or cage.
