Work on phase III of the MacKimmie Complex redevelopment project kicks off on Sept. 28 with the permanent closure of the block and link. Student and administrative services that occupied MacKimmie Block have relocated to MacKimmie Tower or other spaces across main campus.

"We are excited about the new energy and opportunities the future block and link will bring to campus," says Boris Dragicevic, who heads up Facilities Development and guides this project, "It'll be a few more years of construction but once complete, the buildings will provide a central hub for innovative learning approaches, entrepreneurialism, and academic research and discovery."

Upcoming route and access changes

Exterior access between Murray Fraser Hall and MacKimmie Tower will open on Sept. 28. This will provide a new route between the Taylor Family Digital Library and Swann Mall.

While construction continues, access through the Taylor Family Digital Library Plus 15 will be unavailable and will remain closed until 2022. Everyone is encouraged to discover your new favourite route to cross campus or locate a quiet study area in one of the many spaces that have opened up in the past few years.

To ensure everyone's safety, hoarding and fencing will be set up around the construction zone's perimeter, including the block and link and the north side of Swann Mall. Passersby are asked to exercise caution, respect all construction crews, equipment and signs, and travel only in designated areas or as directed. Crews will be on hand to direct traffic during peak hours. Report any concerns to the Customer Care Centre (online through ARCHIBUS, 403-220-7555 or myfacilities@ucalgary.ca).
