Clinicians in the Community

UCVM is one of a handful of veterinary schools in the world who partner with a network of sites for students and faculty to provide clinical experiences.  Some of these veterinary practice partners, called the Distributed Veterinary Teaching Hospitals (DVTH), provide our faculty clinicians with professional opportunities within our Alberta community.

UCVM is fortunate to have a clinical team of who participate in teaching, research and clinical activity.  Many hold recognized veterinary specialities and are board-certified or double-boarded by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties.

  1. Small Animal

    VCA CARE Centre
VCA Western Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Centre

  2. Equine

    Burwash Equine Services
    Moore Equine Veterinary Centre
    TD Equine Veterinary Group

  3. Bovine

    Veterinary Agri-Health Services

  4. Zoological & Mixed Animal

    Calgary Zoo
    Chinook Country Veterinary Clinic

UCVM faculty are also available for professional consultations outside of their main DVTH partner practice.  If you are a Veterinary Clinic in Alberta, and interested in hosting our faculty or receiving a case or practice consultation,  you can reach out to members of our team directly, or for general information.   NOTE: UCVM Faculty only consult through veterinary practices and do not consult directly to animal owners or producers.

HADIS provides support for veterinarians who have identified unusual animal health events, outbreaks of disease, loss of productivity, or situations in which human disease risk is an important component of the animal health event. These events do not include reportable disease or foreign animal diseases – these would be investigated by the appropriate government authority. At no time does HADIS provide an independent veterinary service, HADIS always works through a primary veterinarian.   While most assessments involve production animals, other species would also be involved.  Examples could include dairy herds, cow-calf herds, feedlots, equine breeding farms or performance units, small animal rescues, wildlife, etc.  There are generally no charges for the professional service, however, there may be charges for the additional diagnostic or analytical work approved by the veterinarian and producer/owner.  Normally, such additional charges would be billed through the referring veterinarian.

Whether you give to one of the school’s identified priorities or to a fund that is personally meaningful, your gift will provide UCVM students with transformative experiences they will carry with them for life.

  • The Equine Health Fund supports equine education, clinical activities, and research efforts within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
  • The Bovine Health Fund supports bovine education, clinical activities, and research efforts within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
  • The Companion Animal Health Fund supports companion animal education, clinical activities, and research efforts within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Student and program support: The UCVM Excellence Fund enables UCVM to support student and faculty activities, increase the quality of academic programs, provide a valuable student experience, invest in new strategic programs and projects, and attract first-class faculty and students.
